More about this project

La Gloria replaced a vacant East Market Street lot in Salinas. CHISPA, a nonprofit that had built more than 2,300 homes in Monterey County since 1980, developed the three-story building on about half an acre, with a landscaped courtyard and fountain. Financing included roughly $830,000 from the City of Salinas Redevelopment Agency. Residents are selected by lottery and must be 62 or older, with rents set well below nearby market rates. All 23 apartments were leased within a month of completion, and 289 people were on the waiting list at the July 2011 grand opening.
